Ocean Network Express expands partnership with Project Maji to Nigeria.

October 05, 2026

[London, 30 September 2026] - Ocean Network Express (ONE) today announced the expansion of its partnership with Project Maji, a pan-African safe water social enterprise, in Nigeria. Following joint projects in Ghana and Kenya, ONE is now funding Project Maji’s first project in Nigeria, bringing a sustainable water solution to the underserved Pegi community.

Recognising the pressing need for safe and reliable water access and its transformative impact on communities, ONE is funding the installation of a Mini Maji solar-powered water kiosk in Pegi.

Pegi is home to approximately 2,900 people, many of whom rely on farming for their livelihoods. The community was selected due to the acute scarcity of clean water and the lack of adequate alternatives. Currently, residents rely primarily on rainwater and a lone private water vendor whose water point depends on the city electricity supply, which is frequently unavailable.

Pegi’s relative isolation and infrastructure means they face significant challenges in accessing water from elsewhere. Particularly during the rainy season, further limiting residents’ ability to secure a reliable supply of water.

Preparations for the new water point are already underway, with the project having successfully passed pump testing and water quality testing. The installation of the kiosk will follow shortly.

The project reinforces ONE’s commitment to Sub-Saharan Africa and to making an impact beyond its business operations. By supporting Project Maji, ONE continues to contribute to the health, resilience and long-term development of communities across the region.

Tomohiro Hosaka, Managing Director for ONE Europe and Africa said “We are pleased to once again partner with Project Maji and sponsor their inaugural project in Nigeria, bringing safe, clean water to the Pegi community. A reliable supply of safe water close to home matters to every family's health and daily routine. Supporting local communities is central to ONE's CSR approach, and we are glad to contribute to Project Maji’s work in Nigeria.”

Sunil Lalvani, Founder and CEO of Project Maji commented “ONE has been a committed partner to Project Maji as we have worked to bring reliable water access to communities across Africa, and it means a great deal to have them alongside us as we take this important first step into Nigeria. Pegi is exactly the kind of community Project Maji exists to serve, where something as fundamental as safe water remains unreliable and difficult to access. Together with ONE, we now have the opportunity not simply to install infrastructure, but to provide a water service that this community can depend on for the long term.”
